I Can’t Bring My Bible to Church
VIETNAM — “My grandfather will throw my Bible away, if he discovers I have it,” Nathan shared, “so I can’t bring it home.” Nathan and his mother both are believers and members of our church, and although his grandmother is also a believer, his grandfather is not. This means that, for the past twenty years, their three-generation home has not known peace. Throughout all those years, Nathan’s grandfather has persecuted and threatened his family, insisting—sometimes forcefully—that they not believe this ridiculous Bible.
Nathan and his mother found the Truth when they visited the children’s ministry at our church and got involved in the Bread of Life program. They have tried to remain discreet about their faith and about attending church, all to avoid Grandfather’s wrath. Not infrequently, they have to skip church—especially when Grandfather gets drunk and threatens to disrupt any of their Christian activities, including our church service.
We are uncertain how long this situation will continue for Nathan and his family. They pray for a miracle—not that Grandfather would die and leave them in peace, but that God would save him through their persistent Christ-like behavior. Please keep Nathan and his mother, Dee, in your prayers. They will appreciate your prayers, even if in this life they do not know you are praying them. God hears, and God alone can perform the miracle they so desperately desire to see!
